2023 Legislative Priorities
The Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce is a champion of business, advocating to ensure a thriving business community in Puyallup, Sumner and East Pierce County.
Our 2023 Legislative Priorities reflect what we believe are the most pressing issues at this time. Stay tuned to our regular updates regarding specific bills related to these priorities.
The Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce is a member of the South Sound Chambers of Commerce Legislative Coalition (SSCCLC), collectively advocating for business and business-related policies impacting the South Sound region. Our shared lobbyist in Olympia keeps us informed with weekly sessions during the legislative session, as well as frequent updates at our Government Affairs Council meetings.
The Coalition enables our members to speak with a unified voice and it develops annual, unified legislative positions and associated legislative events and activities.

Via the SSCCLC, we tracked 181 bills during the 2022 Legislative Session. We supported 51 bills, and opposed 31 bills.
Key Successes:
Supplemental Transportation Budget and the Move Ahead Washington Package passed, fully funding Gateway project, and additional funding that will benefit the South Sound Region.
SB 5980 (B&O tax credit) passed
SHB 1732 (delaying Long Term Care Tax) passed
HB 1099 (adding climate change to GMA) died
Ergonomics bill failed to gain traction
